The Michelin Guide is officially making its debut in the Lone Star State, as Michelin and Travel Texas recently announced the Michelin Guide Texas.

The first Michelin Guide Texas selection will be unveiled later this year, showcasing culinary gems in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio.

According to Michelin, Texas boasts award-winning barbecue, locally sourced seafood and steaks and savory Tex-Mex, among other culinary delights. The state's vibrant and sophisticated gastronomic scene highlights culinary talents deeply rooted in Texas culture and influenced by international cuisines from around the world.

“The Texas culinary scene has proven to be an exhilarating one, with multicultural influences, homegrown ingredients and talent that is rich in ambition,” International Director of the Michelin Guides Gwendal Poullennec said in an official statement. “Foodies and travel enthusiasts alike will find something to enjoy, with such a broad dining scene spanning farm-to-table dishes, fusion cuisine, upscale dining and the famous Texas-style barbecue. Texas is a perfect fit for the Michelin Guide, based on the experiences of our anonymous Inspectors.”

Anonymous Michelin Guide inspectors will award the coveted Michelin stars — one, two or three — for exceptional cuisine. The guide is also famous for its Bib Gourmand selection, which highlights restaurants offering high-quality food at great value. The Michelin Green Star recognizes restaurants that excel in sustainable gastronomy. Additionally, the inspectors highlight recommended restaurants and present special professional awards.

“The Michelin Guide Texas will illustrate to global travelers the culinary journey that’s waiting to be discovered in our state, featuring restaurants that embody our heritage and introducing innovative chefs and local artisans who are redefining our food scene,” said Tim Fennell, director of Travel Texas. “The introduction of the guide will be a tremendous asset for Texas, promoting our rich and diverse food culture and elevating the restaurant scene to an international stage.”

Currently, Michelin's anonymous Inspectors are in the field, making secret dining reservations and paying for all their meals to ensure they receive the same treatment as any other customer.

The 2024 Texas restaurant selection will join the Michelin Guide's curated list of hotels later this year, featuring the most unique and exciting places to stay in Texas and beyond. Each hotel in the guide is selected for its exceptional style, service, and character, with options to suit all budgets. Every hotel can be booked directly through the Michelin Guide website or app.
