Here's how it usually goes: You want cute and sweet donuts, there are oodles of places. But if you also want savory and spicy chicken sandwiches, well, then you must go elsewhere. Two-for-one shops like that are rarities! Enter Honeybird.
Honeybird first opened in Flower Mound in December 2021, and its second location, the Plano one, followed last December. We haven't been. That is, until now.
What To Expect
The donuts at Honeybird are very, very cute, and are prime Instagram fodder, running the gamut of lemon poppyseed (filled with lemon curd, vanilla poppyseed icing, whipped cream topping, fresh lemon slice and poppyseed sprinkle) and cotton candy (blue cotton candy icing, rainbow sprinkles, buttercream, topped with a sour rainbow chewy candy) to banana pudding (banana pudding filling, maple icing, dulce de leche drizzle, vanilla whipped cream, walnuts and Nilla wafers) and berry matcha (raised donut with matcha cream on top, raspberry jam and fresh strawberries). Do you like cronuts? Well, they've got cronuts.
All this, plus coffee would be enough for other donut shops to call it a day. But Honeybird isn't other donut shops — heck, it's not "just" a donut shop. The signage out front quickly clues you in: "Sandwiches. Donuts. Coffee." Got it?
Thing is, the chicken sandwiches are good, and then even do versions with house-made biscuits. You can go savory with a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich, or savory-sweet with the Honeybird biscuit that's buttermilk fried chicken with Ancho honey drizzle, savory-spicy with the spicybird biscuit with Nashville hot-style fried chicken. And they have breakfast tacos and tater tots, and who doesn't like that?
Plus, there's coffee and colorful lattes.
How Is The Coffee?
It's good! They serve coffee from Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters, so you can get a legit cup of java. There are colorful lattes, like the matcha latte and the strawberry latte, neither of which were too sweet, making them fitting for donut consumption. One of their signature drinks is the chagaccino, an organic mushroom coffee blend that they say helps relieve stress, boost immunity and endurance, and will even make you prettier. We did not try that, but the lattes sure were good.
For Those With Dietary Restrictions
If you eat gluten-free, Honeybird won't be for you. There are vegetarian options, but there aren't vegan ones.
You Will Want To Take Photos
As we said (and as you can see!), Honeybird's donuts and drinks are adorable. You will want to take photos. Lots of them. Of the food. Of yourself. Of yourself with the food. Good thing the patio has an Alice in Wonderland-style backdrop. It's perfect.
