McDonald’s is pressing forward with its expansion of CosMc’s, its beverage-focused spin-off, in North Texas, with the upcoming opening of a new location in Allen on Feb. 15, 2025. Since making its debut in Far North Dallas in March 2024, CosMc’s has quickly gained traction, adding locations in Watauga, Arlington, Fort Worth and San Antonio.

But despite the impressive growth, however, not all of the Texas locations have proven to be sustainable. In fact, three of the seven CosMc’s locations in the state closed in Jan. 2025, including the Preston Road outpost, signaling that even the swiftest expansions can face challenges as the company works to solidify its place in the competitive North Texas market.

Why CosMc’s Closed Several Locations

Since the launch of CosMc’s, the brand has had the opportunity to test various location sizes and setups. This includes revamping larger restaurant spaces as well as developing smaller prototype locations that prioritize the drive-thru and digital experience.

“We learned that the smaller format stores allow us to test new, unique circumstances that are reflective of our customer base,” McDonald’s previously said in an official statement. “As a result, we will open two new smaller format stores in Texas in 2025, and close three of the larger locations that were remodeled into CosMc’s locations.”

Closed locations:

  • 17370 Preston Road, Dallas
  • 7304 Denton Hwy, Watauga
  • 300 East Abram St Ste 150, Arlington

New Allen Location Brings New Drinks

To celebrate the opening on Feb. 15, CosMc’s is introducing a trio of churro-flavored beverages: churro cold brew, churro latte and churro shaken espresso. The new drinks are part of the brand’s extensive menu, which includes a variety of innovative drinks like energy-boosting Galactic Boost with optional caffeine syrups or pre-workout shots, as well as iced teas, lemonades, slushies, frappés and hot and cold brews.

The new Allen location is at 861 W. Stacy Road and will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

While the beverages are the main attraction, CosMc’s also offers a selection of snacks such as pretzel or hash-brown bites, McPops, cookies, and soft serve. For those seeking a more substantial bite, the menu includes sandwiches like the spicy queso sandwich and the classic Egg McMuffin.

However, CosMc’s veers from traditional McDonald’s fare, with no burgers or fries to be found. The absence of seating and the emphasis on touch-screen ordering make for a quick, to-go experience that aligns with the brand’s focus on beverage innovation and modern convenience.
