The McKinney Fire Department is rolling out the red carpet for a real-life hero — 12-year-old Auri Agramont. On Nov. 19, 2024, the department will honor Agramont for life-saving actions during a ceremony at McKinney City Hall.

Just one day after attending the department’s babysitter club class on Nov. 2, 2024, Agramont sprang into action to save her eight year old younger sister from choking, using the life-saving first-aid skills she had just learned.

“I just remembered and acted very calmly,” Agramont said.

The babysitter club class isn’t just any training program — it’s a class full of essential safety knowledge. Sponsored by MFD, the course teaches fire safety, baby and child CPR and basic first aid. Partnering with Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-McKinney, participants also receive stop-the-bleed training, while the McKinney Police Department provides lessons in home security.

This free, 90-minute class equips young individuals with the confidence and skills they need to handle emergencies and shine as capable caregivers. This class will be held again in Spring 2025. These classes are designed for ages 11-18.
