On June 17, 2024, the city of Allen Police and Fire Departments presented the city of Plano with a token of appreciation for their professionalism and partnership during the tragic event at the Allen Premium Outlet Mall on May 6, 2023.

The city of Allen also wrote a letter to Plano Mayor John B. Muns and the residents of Plano to express their gratitude for supporting their neighboring community during a time of need.

“In times of crisis, the strength of a community is measured by its ability to come together and support one another,” the letter reads. “Your first responders exhibited remarkable professionalism, courage, and dedication in their efforts to assist Allen's emergency services during this challenging ordeal.”

The letter also thanked Plano for its coordination and collaboration between the organizations' emergency response teams for their comfort and reassurance for the Allen community.

“As we move forward, let us continue to stand together as neighbors, supporting and uplifting one another in the face of adversity,” the letter ends. “Together, we are stronger, and together, we will overcome any challenge that comes our way.”

As Local Profile previously reported, the Allen Premium Outlets recently unveiled a permanent memorial for the eight lives lost on the first anniversary of the shooting. A citywide moment of silence was also observed in Allen at 3:36 p.m. on May 6, 2024.

The memorial is positioned within the northwest interior section of the outlet mall, adjacent to the flagpoles and communal seating, near West Elm. Crafted from hand-painted stainless steel, it weighs approximately 1,800 pounds and features eight wind chimes for each victim.

A black plaque bearing the inscription "Always Remembered, May 6th, 2023" rests within the flower bed at the memorial's base. A permanent bronze plaque will eventually replace the current temporary one.
