The Keep Texas Beautiful project recently announced the recipients of the 2024 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards, acknowledging exceptional community enhancement endeavors. This year, several North Texas cities were honored.

The communities of Anna, Garland, Argyle, Whitesboro, Alpine, Seabrook, Del Rio, Little Elm, San Marcos and Pearland were winners. These communities, recognized for their outstanding efforts, will collectively be granted $2 million in landscaping awards from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), with the distribution of funds tailored to population size. These funds will be employed for landscaping initiatives along state rights-of-way, contributing to the overall visual allure of these areas.

For more than thirty years, Keep Texas Beautiful has partnered with TxDOT to honor communities across Texas for their remarkable dedication to preserving the beauty of their surroundings.

Anna is one of the top ten rapidly expanding cities within the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As the community embraces an increasing number of residents, city authorities crafted comprehensive plans to steer decision-making processes in both the short and long term. These plans are geared towards nurturing a hometown identity for Anna, encapsulated by seven core descriptors: vibrant, safe, unique, resilient, active, excellent and neighborly.

Keep Anna Beautiful, one of the latest affiliates of Keep Texas Beautiful, is actively involved in spreading awareness on various topics such as recycling, volunteerism, civic engagement, stormwater management and water conservation efforts.

The waterways within Anna's green areas are vital components, receiving dedicated care to maintain cleanliness and visual charm. Strategically positioned waste bins along these waterways promote responsible disposal practices.

Annually, the city of Anna organizes an Earth Day celebration, drawing approximately 350-400 attendees, including local educational organizations. Keep Anna Beautiful successfully established a prairie restoration garden, which showcased its first full blooming season in 2023.

The city’s emphasis on solid waste disposal protocols for builders, along with its recognition as a Tree City USA, shows the city's dedication to sustainability and the preservation of its natural allure for future generations.
