Staycation With Westin Stonebriar’s Frisco Roughriders Package

Squeeze in one last weekend of family fun before fall rolls around

School may be back in session, but that doesn’t mean fun with the family has to end. At Westin Stonebriar, solo travelers, couples and families can find many ways to enjoy a weekend. And as the resort is within proximity to Frisco Roughriders Ballpark, there’s no better way to close out the summer and ring in the fall than with America’s pastime.

Finding time to squeeze one last summer staycation with the family may be a bit of a challenge, but thankfully, Westin Stonebriar’s optimal location won’t have you straying too far from home.

This summer, Westin Stonebriar introduced its Frisco RoughRiders Package, which includes an overnight stay, ballpark-themed snacks upon arrival, and tickets to a Roughriders to game. Rates for the package begin at $149 per person — a rate that arrives as a steal for an experience that knocks it all out of the park.

The package remains available through September 8, which marks the Roughriders last home game of the season.

Lobby

Check-in was quick and relatively simple. We arrived about an hour before check-in time (4 p.m.), but thankfully, the hotel had a room ready. The space was very dog-friendly, and had treats and water ready for furry friends.

Inside the lobby is a cafe called Beans and Barrel, with snacks, drinks, and coffee available for purchase from 6:00 a.m to midnight. The cafe is connected to a bar that specializes in cocktails, wine, and bar bites.

With the Roughriders package, guests are handed a gift bag containing Dr Pepper, Cracker Jack, and snack mix.

Room

Our fifth floor room overlooked the resort’s luscious golf course. In addition to gorgeous views, the large king bed’s soft mattress allowed for calming, peaceful sleep. Alarm clocks by the bed contained USB and lightning ports that charge multiple devices — ideal for families whose members use smartphones, tablets, and any manner of technology.

In the bathroom is a mirror framed with a flashing light, allowing for optimal styling and accessorising. The glass shower contains white tea-scented shampoo, conditioner and body wash, as well as a showerhead attachement, with adjustable water-pressure settings.

The large window in the bedroom brought in bright sun during our stay, allowing for a calming, natural wake-up call.

The Game

RoughRiders Stadium is about a five-minute drive from the Westin Stonebriar. Guests can schedule a free shuttle ride to and from the resort in order to avoid traffic.

Getting into the stadium and through is a seamless process, and as the team’s fanbase is more local than national, moving through the stadium wasn’t stressful or chaotic.

The game was lots of fun, with many sponsors handing out free merch — like Portillo’s with hot dog-shaped noisemakers and Cacique with loteria cards.

Once the game was over, we called the hotel, who sent a shuttle to pick us up within minutes.

Dining

Upon our return from the game, we grabbed a nightcap and some late night bites over at Beans and Barrel’s bar. We enjoyed a hearty brisket quesadilla — topped with a drizzle of Mexican crema and pico de gallo — as well as some smoked chicken wings, with some zesty lemon flavor.

Our favorite cocktails were the paloma and the lost in the south.

In the morning, we dined at the resort’s other restaurant, Herd and Hearth. Herd and Hearth offers continental options, a hot buffet, as well as a menu consisting of sweet, savory and healthy items.

We tried the acai bowl, containing a refreshing blend of berries, bananas and milk. A more heavy option are the chilaquiles, made with corn tortillas, pulled pork, salsa verde and fried eggs.

An eclectic mix of music on the restaurant’s playlist — comprised of Kaytranada, Arlo Parks, Glass Animals and Tame Impala — set the morning grooves for the day.

Pool

We first reviewed the pool during a quick visit back in 2021. The pool is spacious enough for adults to hang out, have drinks and chat amongst themselves, while still being able to keep an eye on their children.

Additionally, guests can turn up the heat in a round hot tub next to the pool.

On Saturdays, a DJ curates the vibes for a fun day of swimming and partying.

Check-out

Checking out of the hotel went quickly, and thankfully, getting to the car wasn’t a hassle. We especially loved the amount of free parking spots available at the hotel.

You’ll be sad to leave the hotel once your stay is over, but thankfully, a good staycation in Collin County is never too far away.
