The Legacy Senior Communites — a not-for-profit, upscale retirement living — recently announced it will be expanding its Plano community, The Legacy Willow Bend. Established over 15 years ago, this continuing care retirement community (CCRC) provides life care and was the first of its kind in Plano.

According to The Legacy Senior Community, the expansion is a direct response to the increasing demand and growing waitlist at The Legacy Willow Bend. Included in the expansion will be three new buildings, each containing ten luxurious flats with private garages. The new hybrid-home model will provide residents with the privacy of a single-family home while maintaining the community connection and security of neighboring residences.

"This expansion marks important growth for our organization and a significant step in enhancing options available in Plano," said Melissa Orth, president and CEO of The Legacy Senior Communities, in an official statement. "The Legacy’s focus is on creating modern, high-quality senior living that caters to the evolving wants and needs of our senior residents. We look forward to serving more seniors with this expansion."

Pre-sales for the expansion began in mid-July, and construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025. Pre-sales only require a fully refundable 10% deposit, and those who deposit first will be able to customize their unit. The anticipated move-in for new residents is expected in spring 2026.

The expansion is designed by HKS Architects, spearheaded by Siobhan Farvardin, AIA, architect and global practice director of senior living at HKS.

A key feature of the expansion is the inclusion of pocket parks, intentionally placed between buildings to encourage outdoor activities and community interactions. "We designed these intimate green spaces to promote well-being and community engagement," Farvardin said. “The flats will offer the most unique retirement living option in our area, with floorplans designed for entertaining and amenities that people are accustomed to in larger homes- making a move from traditional single-family homes to retirement living that much easier.”
