Following days of extreme heat, a cold front is expected to move through parts of North Texas, with storms possible. A cold front by Texas summer standards, that is.

Storms associated with the front may bring strong winds, although the risk of severe weather is low. This unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue into early next week.

Today, North Texas residents can expect a slight chance of showers before 10 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m.. Heat index values may reach up to 101°F, with the sky looking mostly cloudy with a high near 96°F. Southwest winds will be 5 to 10 mph. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch are possible.

Going into the evening, showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly before 10 p.m with the temperature dropping to a low of around 74°F. Southwest winds around 5 mph will become northeast after midnight.

On Thursday, there is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 a.m. The day will be partly sunny with a high near 88°F and east winds at 5 to 10 mph. Thursday night will be mostly clear with a low of around 74°F and east winds continuing at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday and Saturday are expected to be mid to low 90s with clear skies, before an additional storm could move in on Sunday.
