Collin College student Yassin Mudawi was honored as a 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar, receiving a $1,000 scholarship to support his academic journey.

Sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, the scholarship recognizes exceptional Phi Theta Kappa members enrolled in associate degree programs. Mudawi was selected as one of 210 scholars from nearly 1,500 applicants.

"Research shows that Phi Theta Kappa members are four times more likely to complete a college degree than their peers,” said Dr. Monica Marlowe, executive director of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, in an official statement. “The Leaders of Promise Scholarships recognize students for what they have already achieved and help ensure that financial need isn’t a barrier to reaching their academic goals."

A student at the Plano campus and resident of Allen, Mudawi plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a double major in cognitive science and computer Sscience, with the goal of earning a doctoral degree. "This validates that we should always aim high and shoot our shot at great possibilities,” said Mudawi in an official statement. “I’m glad I did because I received this amazing reward."

Mudawi's academic achievements and leadership potential were further demonstrated through his involvement in undergraduate research at Collin College and Yale University, as well as his participation in student organizations such as the Student Government Association, Astronomy Club and Phi Theta Kappa.

The Leaders of Promise Scholarship aims to help students complete their degrees and develop leadership skills through participation in society programs.

"We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s global community leaders," said Jane Hale Hopkins, president of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, in an official statement.
