At H-E-B Plano, bread has been flying off the shelves, but the store continues to restock.

With several inches of snow expected to hit North Texas in the coming days, grocery stores are prepping for the worst as customers flock to pick up pantry staples.

Winter Weather On The Way

As Local Profile previously reported, from late Wednesday through Friday morning, 1-4 inches of widespread snow is expected, and up to 6 inches possible in certain areas of Collin County. National Weather Service (NWS) Meteorologist Matt Stalley told Local Profile the NWS is still trying to pinpoint which areas will see the most snowfall.

Gusty northwest winds combined with falling temperatures will cause wind chills to drop into the single digits and teens. Until Jan. 12, wind chills in the teens are expected. There is also high confidence that travel will be impacted due to wintry precipitation from Wednesday through Friday.

One Step Ahead

According to Kroger Director of Corporate Affairs John Votava, there are no planned changes to the hours of operation at this time; however, adjustments may be made depending on the impact of the upcoming weather. All stores are equipped with backup generators, which were tested earlier this week.

“We are full steam ahead this week and our stores are ready for shoppers preparing for the change in the weather,” Votava told Local Profile. “Shoppers are recommended to call their nearest store to confirm and check road and weather conditions before heading out.”

Votava also noted that shoppers should review prescriptions and have them refilled now before the weather becomes too severe to get on the road.

“We are full steam ahead this week and our stores are ready for shoppers preparing for the change in the weather."

Ready For Customers

All stores are currently operating under their regular hours of operation. Product deliveries are being received as scheduled, ensuring a steady supply of items. When Local Profile went to H-E-B Plano, it was evident that folks are expecting the worst, with memories of the 2021 winter storm still lingering. According to a store employee canned vegetables, sugar, flour, bread and water are among the most popular items leading up to the storms. But employees are staying on top of it and restocking quickly.

“At H-E-B, our top priority is taking care of Texas,” Managing Director of  Public Affairs Mabrie Jackson told Local Profile. “Across our business, we regularly prepare for extreme weather events.”
