The North Texas grocery market is about to get tighter in 2024. According to The Dallas Morning News, the Arizona-based organic foods grocer Sprouts Farmers Market plans to open four stores in Rockwall, McKinney, Dallas and Fort Worth.

Rockwall’s new location, at the former Bealls department store location at 469 E. I-30, is the first in line to open on March 15, 2024. While the store in Rockwall will remodel an existing space, the new locations at Forth Worth and McKinney will be new constructions.

The store in McKinney is expected to open in 2024’s second quarter at the southwest corner of U.S. 75 and Virginia Pkwy, at 2202 W. Virginia Pkwy. This will be the second location the grocery chain opens in the city. The first store opened in 2013, six miles east of the upcoming location at 9241 Virginia Pkwy.

Next in line is Fort Worth, with its new store expected to open in late June at 4525 W. Bailey Boswell Rd. The last one to open is the Dallas location at 2045 Fort Worth Ave. coming at the end of the year.

In the span of two years, several retail and grocery store giants have set their sights on North Texas — Collin County in particular. Being the second wealthiest county in the state, according to SmartAsset, and the third fastest growing county in the nation, it’s no wonder why major players in the market like Kroger, Costco, Walmart and H-E-B are placing big bets in the area.

Even in less populated cities in the county such as Prosper, Melissa and Celina, which combined have a population of less than 80,000 people, massive projects are in the cooks. On Jan 12, 2024, H-E-B broke ground in Melissa for its biggest store in DFW at 131,000 square feet. Meanwhile, in 2022 Celina became the the smallest town chosen to build a full-service Costco store ever. The Costco store will be located just across the street from a massive 77-acre mix-used development at Ownsby Parkway and Preston Road. Additionally, Target opened its largest store in Prosper in October 2023.

Now that Sprouts has joined the party, North Texans will have even more options to choose from for all their grocery needs.
