Following severe storms on May 28, 2024, areas of multiple North Texas cities are struggling to get power back.

According to the city of Plano, several parts of the city are expected to remain without power until approximately Friday while Oncor works to restore the issue. The Oncor outage map  shows that over 7,000 residents in Plano remain without power. Richardson and other nearby cities are seeing over 26,000 residents without power.

“Oncor is working to restore power to those areas as quickly as possible,” the city of Plano said in a statement. “However, they are telling us it could be several days or longer before all power is restored.”

With high temperatures and humidity forecasted for the coming week, the city is urging residents to plan accordingly by seeking locations that have power and air conditioning.

The city is offering “cooling stations” during this time at all libraries and recreation center locations. Plano’s libraries and recreation centers are available as cooling stations during regular hours of operation.

The city of Dallas is also expecting power outages to last several more days. According to the city, Oncor reports 190,687 customers in Dallas are without power as of 9 p.m. on May 28. “Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible, but it could take several days to complete repairs,” the city said.

Dallas also established a debris removal team to clear roads so that Oncor crews can access downed power lines. Residents should call 311 to report downed trees and debris in roadways. 311 operators will forward road blockage information to the appropriate crews.

According to Oncor, personnel are continuing to work to restore power to customers impacted by Tuesday morning’s severe storms. In less than 24 hours, Oncor restored power for more than 340,000 customers. Oncor estimates that restoration will be substantially complete by Friday evening, weather permitting, while harder-hit areas are expected to be restored Saturday.

“We greatly appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers and remain focused on doing all we can to restore the remaining outages as quickly and safely as possible,” said Oncor.
