Fifty women from across the state have been competing at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson for the title of Miss Texas. Annette Addo-Yobo from North Texas was crowned Miss Texas 2024.

“This crown is much bigger than me. It’s a representation of all women,” Addo-Yobo said in an Instagram post. “Thank you to every single woman who brought me to this incredible opportunity!”

Addo-Yobo was born in Ghana and raised in Canada and the U.S. She studied at the University of Texas at Dallas, earning her bachelor's degree in psychology in 2020. This year, she competed as Miss Southlake, and in 2023, she was crowned Miss Dallas. Addo-Yobo made history at the competition by being the first U.S. immigrant to win Miss Texas.

During her talent segment, Addo-Yobo delivered a compelling spoken word piece advocating for autism awareness, a topic close to her as she has a brother on the autism spectrum.

“My platform, The SPARK Project, focuses on autism safety, awareness, and education,” Addo-Yobo said. “As a sibling to someone on the spectrum, I noticed the systemic inequities and lack of education and training very early. It is my mission to amplify the voices of the autistic community and ensure that legislators, decision makers and community members see us and fight for us.”

The final winners of the 2024 Miss Texas competition are as follows:

Miss Texas: Miss Southlake, Annette Addo-Yobo
1st Runner-Up: Miss Space City, Chloe Burke
2nd Runner-Up: Miss Southeast Texas, Anyssa Mujica
3rd Runner-Up: Miss Plano, Sadie Schiermeyer
4th Runner-Up: Miss Burleson, Nicole Wingard

"Congratulations to our remaining Top 12 and the Miss Texas Class of 2024 for all that you accomplished at this competition and during your year of service," Addo-Yobo said. "I can’t wait to serve each and every one of you this year. Our communities and this state are better because of each of you."

As the winner of the Miss Texas 2024 competition, Addo-Yobo will be awarded $20,000 in scholarship funds and will serve as Texas' representative in the Miss America contest.
