My Possibilities (MP), a Plano-based nonprofit that specializes in supporting adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), announced that it is undergoing a transition in executive leadership.

The organization’s executive director, Michael Thomas, is stepping down from his role with MP, with his final day taking place on Dec. 31, 2023. The decision comes after Thomas informed the MP Board of Director’s Executive Committee about his plans to move on from his executive director position.

“The past 14 years at My Possibilities have been an absolute whirlwind of joy, excitement, and impact for the disability community in North Texas. While it is hard to step aside from something so wonderful at My Possibilities, I believe the time is right to welcome a new leader who can foster the ongoing growth of the organization,” said Thomas.

Charmaine Solomon, founder and Chair Emeritus with My Possibilities, said that Thomas played a major role in the growth and success of the North Texas nonprofit over his tenure.

“On behalf of the board, I want to thank Michael for his leadership and commitment to MP," said Solomon. "During his tenure, MP grew into one of the most respected and innovative organizations, serving adults with IDD. Michael was instrumental in changing the community’s perception of adults with IDD for the better, to that of acceptance, love and value.”

In lieu of Thomas’ decision, My Possibilities announced that it has brought in Tod Marvin as its new chief executive officer.

Marvin comes to MP from Easterseals Lonestar — a nonprofit that serves children and adults with disabilities and other special needs — where he served as the president for over 10 years. In addition to Easterseals, Marvin also previously held leadership roles with the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

"I am so excited to have the opportunity to walk alongside MyPossibilities’ HIPsters and their families to unlock their full potential to lead independent lives in North Texas and beyond,” said Marvin. “MP is a world-class organization willing to do whatever is needed to break down barriers for people with disabilities. That passion and drive to change the way the world views people with disabilities is what led me to MP.

Marvin’s first day with MP is slated for Jan. 8, 2024. During that time, Thomas will serve in a consultancy position for 60 days to ensure a smooth transitional period.

“I’m excited to support Tod as he brings an absolute wealth of knowledge in both the disability and nonprofit space,” said Thomas. “Personally, I am excited about continuing to assist My Possibilities, while extending my focus to support disability organizations across the United States who are excited about inclusion and advocacy of people with disabilities.”
