If you’ve been around Plano since 1981, you’re familiar with Jack Carter Park & Pool. For years the pool has been a popular go-to place for summertime fun in the sun, and the park has been a playground destination for kids of all ages.
The summer of 2014, Jack Carter Pool was shutdown due to mechanical and design deficiencies. That same year, the Plano City Council approved $7.5 million for the rebuild of the pool; $750,000 of that was set aside to renovate the area where the pool was located off of Maumelle Drive for Jack Carter Park. The total cost of the project, including design, construction, furniture and equipment was $12.5 million.
The pool relocation address is 2601 Pleasant Valley Dr. and is still on target to open Saturday, July 9. New features to Jack Carter Pool include a dual rider tube slide, body slide, lazy river, deep water pool with platform diving and a climbing wall, Flow Rider surf simulator, tot pool, leisure pool with some lap lanes, wet deck areas, spray features, and rentable party areas and concessions. Entrance prices are still to be determined.
Jack Carter Pool construction update as of 6/13/2016:
Jack Carter Park will span from the former Jack Carter Pool area across the creek just south on Roundrock Trail, which includes an assortment of ball fields and athletic courts for organized and pick-up ball games that can be enjoyed by everyone in the community. Ample parking will be available at the improved park, as well as covered shelters and facilities with accessible restrooms. The different areas of the park will be connected by a series of walking trails too.
Today, June 17, the Plano Rotary Club presented a $25,000 check to City of Plano officials for a new inclusive playground at Jack Carter Park. The playground is designed for children of all abilities to play, learn and grow together and will include experiences that involve movement, climbing and a mix of tactile, visual and auditory experiences.
All children will have access to the full variety of sensory play experiences on the playground, allowing each child to challenge themselves at their comfort level.
The playground is scheduled to open in spring of 2017 at the site of the former Jack Carter Pool at 2800 Maumelle Dr.
