How To Register To Vote In North Texas

The 2024 election is coming up before we know it. But before the big day, here’s what to know about voting in North Texas.

How to register:

Texas law requires eligible voters to register 30 days before Election Day, making this year’s cutoff Oct. 7, 2024. Residents can register by mail to vote by printing a voter registration form, filling it out and mailing it to your local election office. You can also register to vote in person if you prefer. What you need to vote:

In order for any of these to be accepted they must contain a valid photo ID:

  • Texas drivers license 
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate
  • U.S. passport 
  • Texas Personal Identification card 
  • U.S. Military Identification Card
  • U.S. Citizenship Certificate 
  • Texas Personal Handgun license 

If you are unable to provide any of these, there are other options: 

  • Copy of a government document containing name, address and voter registration certificate
  • Bank statement 
  • Utility bill
  • Birth certificate
  • Paycheck
  • Government check 

How to get a mail-in ballot: 

If you are not able to vote in person, you may request a mail-in ballot. In order to vote by mail in Texas, you must be 65 or older, too sick to leave your home, have disabilities or be out of the county on Election Day. If you want to register for a mail-in ballot, fill out the application here. The last day to request a mail-in ballot is Oct. 25, 2024.

Military and overseas voters are able to use the regular registration and early voting by mail process available to all voters away from their home county on Election Day. However, there are also special provisions for military and overseas voters.
