On Dec. 19, a North Texas veteran will receive a brand new 2024 Honda at McDavid Honda of Frisco.

According to CBS Texas, Retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Alan Conway and his family will receive the vehicle from the Military Warriors Support Foundation's Transportation4Heroes. During his service, Conway was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal and additional honors.

Entering the U.S. Army in 2002, Conway was deployed twice: Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Balikatan in the Philippines. Recognized with the Purple Heart in July 2009 for injuries sustained in the line of duty, Conway concluded his nine-year military service and retired in 2011. Currently residing in Grand Prairie with his wife Ashleigh, the Conways foster children in need.

The Military Warriors Support Foundation delivers specialized support services through various programs to veterans wounded in combat and Gold Star families. These initiatives concentrate on areas such as home and vehicle ownership, outdoor recreation, life skills, financial education and leadership development, according to the foundation. The organization has given more than 900 mortgage-free homes and gift-tax-free residences, along with over 130 payment-free vehicles to families across all 50 states.

The Transportation4Heroes initiative provides combat-wounded veterans and Gold Star spouses, who have lost a loved one in action, with payment-free vehicles. In addition to the vehicle, recipients also benefit from a year of family and financial mentoring.

On Sept. 11, 2023, another North Texas vet was awarded a car. Cody Miller, a former U.S. Army Specialist who enlisted in 2009, received the key to his payment-free vehicle in a ceremony. Serving as a combat engineer in Iraq and Afghanistan, Miller was wounded in action, earning him the Purple Heart in recognition of his valor and sacrifice for the nation. Following six years of dedicated service, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and has since made the DFW area his home.
