Forty-One Allen High School Students Recognized As National Merit Semifinalists

The students vie for a share of nearly $26 million in scholarships next spring

In a significant academic achievement, Allen ISD announced that 41 students from Allen High School were named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists for the 2024 competition, part of the 70th annual merit program.

This prestigious recognition places them among over 16,000 academically talented high school seniors nationwide, competing for a share of approximately 6,870 National Merit Scholarships valued at nearly $26 million, which will be awarded next spring.

The students recognized as semifinalists are Harith Ali, Writisha Bezboruah, Janani Bhaskar Torres, Rohit Bhupathiraju, Andrew Bright, Dorothy Chen, Andrew Chou, Caleb Clevenger, Abiraami Elangovan, Maelin Fan, Rishabh Gokhale, Mitul Gouni, Kashyapa Gudipati, Ameen Hasan, Ty Janek, Christina Jansen, Inyoo Jee, Tiffany Jiang, Isabella Kare, Isabelle Li, Arav Lohe, An Luu, Harish Madhu, Preeti Makam, Zachary Mason, Chidera Nwankwo, Kabeer Pandya, Joseph Park, Jay Penkar, Anh Pham, Beatrice Roh, Namay Saini, Krishna Shah, Zakaria Shaikh, Inesh Sharma, Aryan Verma, Joshua Vigel, Jessie Wang, Aidan Williams, Dacey Yang and Heidi Yu.

To advance in the competition, these semifinalists must meet specific requirements to achieve finalist status. According to the National Merit official website, historically, around 95%of semifinalists reach this level, with approximately half of the finalists ultimately receiving a National Merit Scholarship.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), established in 1955, oversees the program as a not-for-profit organization, operating independently of government funding. This initiative aims to recognize and honor academic excellence among high school students across the country.
