Legendary singer-songwriter Dolly Parton was selected to perform during the halftime show of this year’s Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game.
Airing on CBS, the annual Cowboys Thanksgiving match-up has become the most-watched regular season game of the year, with around 42 million viewers tuning in last year.
Parton, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, will be taking to the stage during The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show to perform a setlist that includes her biggest hits, along with songs from her anticipated new album, Rockstar, which is set to release Nov. 17, 2023.
The halftime performance will kick off the beginning of The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, one of the largest and longest-running annual fundraisers of its kind. Now in its 133rd year, the Red Kettle Campaign raises money to help struggling Americans during the holiday season, providing Christmas gifts, food, shelter, as well as rent and utility assistance for people who are in need.
During last year’s initiative, The Salvation Army was able to support nearly 24 million Americans through its fundraiser.
Parton says that she aims to inspire people to help contribute to this year’s cause so that everyone can have a positive holiday experience.
"Wow! What an honor to get to kick off The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign with the halftime show during the Dallas Cowboys game this Thanksgiving," said Parton. "Those Red Kettles have long been a symbol of hope for our friends and neighbors who are facing hard times. My goal is to encourage everyone who can to donate and support their neighbors in need. Every small act of generosity helps, and together, we can all love our neighbors this holiday season and beyond."
