Leaders from Children’s Health, along with donors and community members, recently gathered to celebrate a $5 million contribution from Christina and Rudy Andrea of the Andrea-Mennen Family Foundation. This donation supports the new Children’s Medical Center Plano tower, which is set to open in Dec. 2024.
The gift ranks among the top five donations ever made to a not-for-profit in Collin County and stands as the second-largest contribution ever received by Children’s Medical Center Plano. In honor of the support, the existing atrium at Children’s Medical Center Plano will be renamed the Andrea-Mennen Family Foundation Atrium as part of the atrium lobby’s revitalization.
“Children’s Health has always been very near and dear to our hearts, and we are delighted to give this gift to support the expansion of Children’s Medical Center Plano,” said Christina Andrea in an official statement. “We are grateful to be part of this important project that will continue to meet the health care needs of this growing community for many years to come.”
The new 395,000-square-foot patient tower will enhance the health care system's ability to provide critical and specialized care for the rapidly growing pediatric population in North Texas. This expansion will feature 140 new inpatient beds, all designed to be universal and ICU-capable, along with strengthened specialty services and programs. The emergency department will double in size, incorporating resources essential for establishing a Level II trauma center. The facility will also offer a 180-acre campus that includes green spaces, a 100-year-old oak tree and pasturing horses.
Christina and Rudy have been involved with Children’s Health since the 1990s, beginning with Christina's volunteer work at the Dallas hospital. She has also been a member of the Plano WAX since its inception. The Andreas have been donors since 1996, providing early support for initiatives such as pet therapy, child life and volunteer services in Dallas.
In 2005, they became founding Legacy Donors for the original Plano capital campaign and established a master physician position in sports medicine in 2011. They have made numerous annual contributions to support various programs and events organized by the Plano Women’s Auxiliary.
