To celebrate the Summer Solstice — the longest day of the year with 15 hours of sunlight — Kroger is giving away 45,000 pints of Kroger brand ice cream. That's 50 pints every minute for all 900 minutes of sunshine!

Click the link here on Thursday, June 20 to grab your single-use digital coupon for a free pint of Kroger brand ice cream, available while supplies last. This coupon can be redeemed at most of Kroger stores and is valid for in-store, pickup or delivery orders.

According to the company, the offer is valid for any pint of Kroger ice cream, including flavors like mint chocolate chip, vivid vanilla and deluxe tie-dye burst.

The promotion is valid in all U.S. states except California, Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, Nevada, Tennessee and Virginia.

According to Space.com, the summer solstice marks the official start of astronomical summer and the longest day of the year. This event occurs when one of Earth's poles is tilted toward the sun at its most extreme angle. Due to Earth's tilt, this happens twice a year: in June for the Northern Hemisphere (when the Southern Hemisphere experiences the winter solstice), and in December for the Southern Hemisphere (when the Northern Hemisphere experiences the winter solstice).

The June solstice has a rich historical tradition of celebrations. In ancient times, this date was crucial for organizing calendars and determining the optimal times for planting and harvesting crops. It was also a favored season for weddings and other traditional festivities. But of course, you can also celebrate the solstice with a great pint of ice cream!
