The Shops at Highland Village, an outdoor lifestyle shopping center, recently began construction on “The Backyard,” a reimagined community gathering space in its northern courtyard.
“Our northern courtyard has long served as the perfect place for our visitors to take a break from shopping and enjoy connecting with fellow community members at many of our events,” said Ravi Wadhwa, general manager at The Shops at Highland Village, in an official statement. “At the heart of The Shops at Highland Village, The Backyard will continue to be an excellent place for guests of all ages to unwind, enjoy our programming and build connections with friends and family year-round.”
The Backyard will feature lush landscaping, shaded areas, multiple seating options, ambient path lighting and a water feature. A large green space will offer a perfect gathering spot for families to spend time together and for kids to play.
The new outdoor area will also host many of the center’s signature events, including the summertime concert series and the annual “Our Village Glows” holiday celebration. Construction of The Backyard is scheduled for completion in November 2024.
The Shops at Highland Village offers shopping, dining and entertainment in a picturesque outdoor setting in the heart of Highland Village. Anchored by an AMC Theatre featuring IMAX and a Whole Foods Market, The Shops provides a great mix of national retailers and local boutiques, along with over 17 food establishments to enjoy.
The Shops at Highland Village won The Best of Denton County’s Best Shopping Center award from 2013 to 2023, as voted by the citizens of Denton County.
