Universal Destinations & Experiences has officially unveiled the themed lands that will soon be part of Universal Kids Resort, marking a groundbreaking milestone as the first-ever resort designed specifically for young adventurers and their families.
As Local Profile previously reported, fans initially speculated about the then-unannounced park areas. Let’s see how their guests stack up to the official announcement!
Many fans guessed there that DreamWorks characters and properties would be the park’s main areas, specifically naming the following themed lands:
- Trolls
- Shrek
- Camp Cretaceous
- Madagascar
What Was Guessed Right (And Wrong)

Shrek's swamp is a key feature in the DreamWorks universe, so it’s no surprise fans speculated it would be tied to the beloved ogre — and they were right. Trolls' signature colors also appeared in renderings, with fans pointing to the flowers and rainbow paths as confirmation of the theme — once again, spot on.
While Camp Cretaceous didn’t make the list, the dinosaur theme continues through Jurassic World. As for Madagascar, fans of the movie will have to enjoy a different talking animal — Puss in Boots.
What Themes Did Fans Miss Completely?
While fans correctly guessed Trolls and Shrek, and incorrectly named Camp Cretaceous and Madagascar, they did miss a few completely, including Gabby’s Dollhouse, Jurassic World, SpongeBob and even Minions.
At DreamWorks’ Shrek-themed swamp playground, kids can stomp, ride and celebrate friendship, family and fun. Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants invites guests to explore Bikini Bottom, earning boating licenses and relaxing on the beach. Illumination’s Minions bring mayhem, as yellow Minions chase mischievous purple ones, with water fun and laughter. Jurassic World offers interactive dino adventures, while DreamWorks’ Trolls hosts a colorful music festival with Poppy, Branch and friends. Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws and Perrito lead a lively adoption fair with games, food and a sensory garden. Families can also unwind with shaded play areas and meet characters like Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse.
