Ramen Belly, a popular Japanese-style eatery hailing from Iowa City, will open a location in the Downtown Plano Arts District this year.
Known for its cozy ambiance and authentic fare, Ramen Belly has carved a niche for itself as a go-to spot for aficionados of delicious, traditional Japanese-inspired cuisine. Spearheaded by the culinary expertise of John Lieu and Andy Diep, Ramen Belly promises to bring a delectable array of offerings, including ramen, poke bowls, donburi and dumplings, to its new location.
Its website lists menu offerings such as creamy pork broth slow-cooked for 24 hours, with a choice of three Ramen bases (tare) and sauce. The ramen bowls come with soft-boiled eggs, scallions, corn, mustard greens, bean sprouts and bamboo shoots and your choice of protein.
Drawing from over 18 years of experience in opening Asian fusion restaurants, Lieu and Diep are poised to introduce Plano diners to the rich tapestry of flavors that define Ramen Belly.
When they opened their first location, Diep said to The Gazette, “Ramen is like a daily meal. Just like here in the U.S., pizza is everything, in Japan, ramen is everything. Ramen lingers after you eat it. You enjoy the flavor and swallow. It’s gone, but it’s not gone. It’s still there. I love that about ramen… and that motivated me even more to try to perfect that umami, that taste.”
The forthcoming establishment will be located on the first floor of the Morada building and overlook the McCall Plaza.
