After the unexpected success of Portillo’s first location in Texas at the Grandscape development in The Colony, the Chicago-based street food chain plans to make its way through the Dallas-Fort Worth area by leaps and bounds. As the company is getting ready for the new Allen location’s grand opening tomorrow, Sept. 7, 2023, and Arlington and Fort Worth wait in line, news broke of another Portillo’s restaurant in the works in Mansfield.
According to the Dallas Business Journal, a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing shows that a new 7,700-square-foot location will open at 410 U.S. 287 in Mansfield, within the Shops at Broad retail center. As reported by the Dallas Business Journal, construction is set to begin in Dec. 2023 and will cost an estimated $4.1 million.
As previously reported by Local Profile, Portillo's made its debut in North Texas earlier this year when it opened a 7,900-square-foot location in The Colony on Jan. 18. During the new location’s first 30 days, guest satisfaction scores outperformed the average of all of the company’s restaurants since 2021.
“We are approaching our Texas expansion with a great deal of humility," Portillo’s CEO Michael Osanloo told investors during the company's Q4 and full-year earnings in March. "We're looking for A-plus locations. We're going to continue to over-invest in the management team and training of our team members. We'll open the restaurant when it's beautiful and ready to go and the folks are ready to go."
If you missed Portillo’s Beef Bus’ stop in Allen earlier in July, get your tasting buds ready for the real deal on Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m. when the new location opens its doors in Collin County. Head to 1955 Central Expressway, south of the Allen Premium Outlets, a little earlier to catch the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. featuring Michael Portillo, the VP of restaurant support at Portillo's. As part of the ceremony, Portillo's will also deliver a monetary contribution to its charity collaborators, Allen ISD and All Community Outreach.
