Each year, Yelp compiles a highly anticipated list of the top 100 places to eat in the U.S., drawing from thousands of reviews left by everyday diners like you and me. If you took the time to share your thoughts on a meal this year, your words may have played a role in shaping the rankings.

With millions of restaurants across the country vying for recognition, one standout in Plano earned a coveted spot on the list. Ebesu Robata and Sushi secured an impressive No. 32 ranking, making it the highest-rated restaurant in North Texas, making it the only North Texas restaurant to place in the top fifty.

Ebesu opened in downtown Plano in 2019, led by Osaka-born chef Koji Yoshida. With high expectations surrounding the restaurant, Yoshida's talent was recognized in 2022 when he was named a James Beard Award semifinalist. Ebesu continues to top best-of lists throughout North Texas.

The restaurant offers authentic Japanese cuisine, attracting a dedicated Japanese clientele who appreciate its commitment to tradition. Specializing in robata, sushi and sashimi, the menu highlights the natural flavors of high-quality fish rather than relying on heavy garnishes or sauces, a contrast to many high-end sushi spots in America that focus on creating new flavor profiles.

The sushi here maintains a more balanced and refined taste, staying true to traditional Japanese techniques. To complement the meal, the restaurant also offers exceptional house-made desserts that are subtly sweet, enhancing the dining experience without overpowering the delicate flavors of the sushi.

"I want to satisfy every customer," Yoshida previously told Local Profile. "And I want to close the gap between expectations and reality."
