What You Need To Know About Addison Kaboom Town

Addison Kaboom Town turns 40 this year

One of the biggest Independence Day celebrations in the U.S. is turning 40 — and it’s going all out. On July 3, the town of Addison will once again host Kaboom Town, drawing more than half a million visitors for a full day of festivities, an iconic air show and a fireworks display that routinely ranks among the best in the country.

Though Addison clocks in at just over four square miles and 17,000 residents, the town transforms into a destination for one of the country’s top-rated Fourth of July experiences, with watch parties at over 200 restaurants and 22 hotels, plus a sold-out crowd at the centrally located Addison Circle Park.

The celebration begins at 5 p.m. when Addison Circle Park opens to ticket holders. Guests can expect high-energy performances from the 36th Infantry Band, followed by tribute act The Elton Johns and post-fireworks party band Emerald City All-Stars. Festival food, family activities, face painting and a kid-friendly play zone round out the in-park experience.

But the real draw — and the reason Kaboom Town is a household name — is the air show and fireworks.

The Addison Airport Air Show kicks off the evening with aerobatic flyovers, vintage warbirds and crowd-pleasing stunts. That’s followed by a 25-minute fireworks extravaganza, visible across town and synced to a live soundtrack broadcast on local radio and social media. According to an official statement, the show uses over 4,000 shells and has earned nods from USA Today, Yahoo, People The Wall Street Journal and Travel + Leisure.

General admission to Addison Circle Park is limited and ticketed. Prices are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 2-9 and free for children under 2 (but everyone still needs a ticket). Tickets go on sale June 1 at addisonkaboomtown.com

Want to skip the crowds? Addison’s many hotels offer stay packages with up to six free park admissions, cooling towels and easy access to nearby viewing parties — a convenient way to avoid post-show gridlock.

So bring your lawn chair, your appetite and maybe a pair of earplugs — because after 40 years, Kaboom Town is still blowing things way out of proportion. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
