As the temperatures rise in North Texas, it's time to relish some family moments outdoors. Visiting a nearby playground with your kids is not only an excellent way to keep them entertained but also to let them burn off some energy — all without spending a dime.

Here are some of the best playgrounds in McKinney:

All-Abilities Playground at Bonnie Wenk Park

There’s a lot going on at this all-abilities playground. Highlights include zip lines and a ropes course, slides that slope down a hill among rocks and plants and a play structure that loops and forms an obstacle course. A bonus is that it’s divided into three areas, connected by a walking path. Other onsite facilities include a stocked fishing pond, pavilion, fitness area, trails and a dog pad with a doggie splash pad.

Gabe Nesbitt Park

7001 Eldorado Parkway, McKinney

Gabe Nesbitt Park in McKinney boasts four playgrounds, but two stand out as premier destinations in Collin County. One, nestled in the softball fields, boasts a towering four-story play structure, three expansive slides, all under the comforting shade of a sizable canopy. The other playground, positioned between the tennis courts and skate park, features abundant slides and an array of challenging climbing elements.

Jim Ledbetter Park

3401 Bluewood Dr, McKinney

Jim Ledbetter Park may seem like a small neighborhood park, but it’s filled with fun for all ages. The park features swings, climbing boulders, slides and a rock wall. Plus a picnic area can be found on-site, perfect for family days at the park! 

Dr. Mack Hill Park

1849 Reagan Dr, McKinney

Dr. Mack Hill Park is great for the whole family, with one area for smaller kiddos and another for bigger kids. The playground offers large slides, climbing equipment, a bridge and more. The park also features a splash pad for the hot days upon us. 

Finch Park

Finch is another park in McKinney that offers an afternoon full of fun. The space features swings, slides and everything else a kid could ask for. Plus the park has on-site picnic tables, sports courts (including pickleball) and a splash pad.

John M. Whisenant Park

3701 Hudson Crossing, McKinney
Suitable for all ages; No restrooms available


John M. Whisenant Park is also home to a splash pad and two playgrounds — one for ages 2-5 and the other for ages 5-12. The park’s other amenities include swings, a hike/bike trail and an open turf area. And the park is dog friendly with a dog park nearby, so feel free to bring your fur babies and your regular ones!
