Texas is booming, with its population officially surpassing 30.7 million this year, as reported by the Texas Demographic Center. Collin County is leading the charge, experiencing an astonishing population growth of over 13%, year on year.
In 2020, the county’s population was 1,064,465. Now, in 2024, Collin County’s population is estimated at 1,209,295 — an impressive 40,900 more people than previously projected. This explosive growth highlights the county's vibrant communities and growing allure.
Looking ahead, Collin County is set to double its population by 2060. But what’s driving this rapid influx of newcomers to this year of North Texas?

North Texas is buzzing with activity as massive development projects are underway — not to mention those already built.
In Frisco for example, the Fields is taking shape, and is poised to drive long-term growth in Frisco. Spanning 2,500 acres across Denton and Collin counties, this master-planned development by Fehmi Karahan promises to transform the area. It will include Class A office spaces, retail outlets, entertainment venues, restaurants, recreational areas, residential units and expansive open spaces.
Another massive development, The Mix, is also underway. The $3 billion mixed-use development in Frisco, is set to feature a wide range of features at the site was previously known as Wade Park. The development will feature 2 million square feet of office space, 375,000 square feet of retail, two hotels with 650 rooms, townhomes, luxury apartments, a 9-acre park, over 16 acres of open space and a medical office complex.
And this is just a couple. Plus, the upcoming Universal Kids Resort promises to add even more excitement to the region, offering family-friendly fun for visitors of all ages.
So Much To Do Now — And In The Future
North Texas jam packed with a mix of activities and attractions for all interests. Golf enthusiasts can tee off at the PGA’s headquarters and championship courses in Frisco, while foodies and shoppers can explore the diverse offerings at Legacy Hall in Plano. Not to mention, the massive Grand Park in Frisco is set to be the ultimate destination for outdoor adventures.
Just a short drive away, Dallas and beyond provide an endless array of cultural, entertainment and nightlife options, from world-class museums and sporting events to lively restaurants and concerts
North Texas cities such as these have become a model for not only what folks look for when moving, but what other cities aim to be.
Jobs? We Got Jobs
The Dallas-Fort Worth area is home to 24 Fortune 500 company headquarters, with many choosing to settle outside Dallas in cities like Plano, Frisco, Irving and McKinney. As major corporations such as AT&T, Southwest Airlines, Toyota, Intuit and Globe Life expand their operations, suburban areas are becoming hubs for corporate opportunities. So, not only are there jobs, there are high-paying, good jobs. Plus smaller, safer, family-friendly communities increasingly attractive for those looking to relocate.
It’s Safe And That Matters
In North Texas, the family-friendly environment goes hand in hand with a strong emphasis on safety. According to a report from SafeWise, Texans are notably more concerned about safety than the national average. In response to these concerns, the Plano Police Department recently celebrated an impressive achievement: a dramatic decline in crime across the city, reaching levels not seen since 1993, the year the department began tracking data.
In fact, the Plano Police Department emphasizes collaboration — the department actively works with neighboring law enforcement agencies and state and federal partners to share resources, intelligence and expertise, creating a unified and effective front against crime, and creating a safer city and region.
These are just some of the reason why people, myself included, have moved to North Texas. Are we missing any others?
