Addison’s beloved annual celebration of food, drink, music and art has returned — and with it, a surprisingly persistent debate that refuses to die: is it Taste Addison or Taste of Addison?
Friendships tested, group chats divided and at least one trivia night ruined by this oddly passionate disagreement. Spoiler: the event’s official name has been Taste Addison since it first launched in 1993.
A Reddit-Fueled Identity Crisis
The confusion, recently reignited by a Reddit thread, has foodies and locals chiming in with their theories — and jokes. Redditors were quick to weigh in on the curious case of the missing “of.”
One commenter summed up the awkwardness: “Taste Addison sounds weird like you’re gonna be licking the buildings, houses, apartments in Addison.” (Important PSA: Please do not lick Addison’s infrastructure.)
Another user suggested giving in to public habit, saying, “Personally, I feel like they should just give in and accept that the public has spoken.”
The internet discourse reflects what many locals have probably been thinking for years — Taste of Addison just sounds right. Maybe it’s the influence of other regional festivals like Taste of Dallas or Taste of Chicago. But as far as the town of Addison is concerned, the “of” was never invited.
Taste Addison Responds
This isn’t the first time the name has sparked confusion — or some mild discourse. Back in 2019, the town of Addison even released a lighthearted YouTube video highlighting the many ways people misname the festival. Unfortunately, very few got it right.
“It’s a long-term thing,” spokesperson Sara Burgos told Local Profile. “The festival has always been called Taste Addison, but I guess since DFW also has Taste of Dallas and others like it, it gets called 'Taste Of.'”
In a playful nod to the ongoing name debate, this year’s festival merchandise includes T-shirts that read: “The ‘of’ is silent.”

Does The Name Even Matter?
No matter what you call it — Taste Addison or Taste of Addison — the festival remains a staple of the April calendar in North Texas. And thanks to a little Mandela Effect magic and some online chatter, it’s now rocking a clever new tagline and enjoying a moment of internet fame.
