With spring showers on the way, bluebonnet season is just around the corner. Bluebonnets typically bloom from mid to late March through April, though Mother Nature likes to keep us guessing. Who knows, you may see them popping soon. 

With warmer days and spring showers ahead, it's time to map out your bluebonnet excursions — and practice your best "casually frolicking in a field" pose.

Declared the official state flower in 1901, bluebonnets became a Texas staple long before they took over Instagram feeds. In the 1930s, the Texas Highway Department began scattering bluebonnet seeds along roadsides — a beautification project that still leaves drivers pulling over for "just one more picture" every spring.

Did you know Plano has its own scenic bluebonnet trail? The route stretches from Central Expressway to Midway Road, winding along Spring Creek Parkway and Chase Oaks Boulevard. Check out this map from the city of Plano website to plan your visit. Spring Creek Pkwy. and Custer Rd. typically have the most bluebonnet sightings. 

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

Arbor Hills is one the best places to enjoy North Texas’ native flowers, grasses and wildlife. This time of year bluebonnets are popping up throughout the area, but one of the best places to find them is actually outside of the preserve. The right of way along Parker Road is a great spot to spot some bluebonnets. 

Lord of Life Lutheran Church

In front of Lord of Life Lutheran Church at 3601 W 15th Street in Plano, near Medical City Plano, you'll find a small but vibrant bluebonnet field known for its plentiful blooms.

Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve

Every year Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve is home to bluebonnet blooms throughout the park, especially near the amphitheater. The park is perfect for a day trip, so pack a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

Legacy West

Legacy West is known for its large planters filled with vibrant flowers, but it also boasts pockets of wildflowers and bluebonnets. Each year, bluebonnets bloom around the Legacy and Communications area, adding a touch of Texas beauty to the modern landscape.

International Parkway and Midway Road

Across the street from Prince of Peace (International Parkway and Midway Road) is an empty field that annually sees a range of wildflowers, including bluebonnets. While that is a busy intersection, parking can be found at nearby business parks.
