Following severe storms early this week, and additional flooding on Thursday, May 31, Plano Mayor John B. Muns wrote a letter to residents.

In the letter, the mayor reminds the community of its resilience during extreme situations and informs them of the city’s efforts to repair any damages.

The letter from Mayor Muns reads as follows:

Dear fellow Plano residents,

It happens every time severe weather strikes leaving a trail of damage. We pull together as a community. We have seen so many examples of this in the last few days since a powerful storm roared through Plano. Neighbors helping neighbors. It’s a common site on every street in every neighborhood. That’s a big part of what makes Plano the city of Excellence.

In that same light, your city is responding and helping our community recover as quickly as humanly possible.

When so many trees have fallen or had their limbs ripped off in our 72 square miles, it is a daunting and challenging task to remove tons and tons of debris.

That’s why we’re asking for your patience and understanding. Please know, we have a large team of hundreds of dedicated city employees who are working diligently to remove your debris. It won’t be easy and it won’t be fast. But you can help by knowing what’s in front of us and what you can do to help speed things up. One of the keys to an effective recovery is to keep our community informed. It’s going to take time, but rest assured, we will get to you. We’ve set up a place on our website that clearly outlines our recover plan. Go to plano.gov/stormrecovery.

As with any emergency or disaster, it takes an entire community to come together to return life to normalcy. We will get through this. We’ve done it before, and we will rise above these new challenges again. So again, please be patient and understanding. We are here to serve you. Above all else, it is our people that make Plano the city of Excellence.

Sincerely,
John B. Muns
