All three McKinney ISD high schools were named to the 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll by the College Board, with one of them receiving additional special recognition.

This year, McKinney Boyd High School and McKinney High School both received the AP Silver Award, while McKinney North High School earned the AP Gold Award. McKinney High School was honored with the AP Access Award.

"Our AP students and teachers have demonstrated a remarkable dedication to academic excellence,” said MISD Coordinator of Advanced Academics and Collegiate Partnerships Dr. Javetta Jones Roberson in an official statement. “As our schools have broadened access to AP with its rigorous coursework and challenging exams, our students have not only proven their intellectual abilities but have also prepared themselves for the rigors of college and beyond. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and the bright futures that await them."

The AP program in McKinney ISD is designed to be inclusive, offering wide access to AP course participation. Students in MISD can enroll in an AP class as long as they have successfully completed the prerequisite courses (e.g., English II before English III) and are prepared to meet the time and learning demands of a college-level course.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that effectively enhance their AP programs, delivering positive outcomes for students while expanding access. Schools are eligible for annual recognition based on criteria that demonstrate a commitment to: fostering a college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and optimizing college readiness.

The AP School Honor Roll program acknowledges schools across four levels of distinction: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Schools on the Honor Roll can also receive the AP Access Award by showcasing a strong commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework. A school's overall recognition reflects its base level of achievement across these three metrics.
