McKinney Independent School District has launched a new initiative, Choose McKinney ISD, which offers families the flexibility to enroll their children in McKinney ISD schools regardless of residency within district boundaries.

This program is open to students entering Kindergarten through 8th grade and includes:
- Intradistrict transfers: For students residing within McKinney ISD boundaries.
- Interdistrict transfers: For students living outside the district.
- Special program enrollment: For those seeking specific programs offered within McKinney ISD.
Application Process For 2025-2026
Starting Feb. 3, 2025, families can follow these steps to apply:
- Apply online: Submit the application and required documents through the McKinney ISD website.
- Await approval: Families will be notified upon application review and approval.
- Complete enrollment: Approved applicants must finalize registration via McKinney ISD’s online enrollment system.
Transfer Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements to participate in the Choose McKinney ISD program. These include being a Texas resident, achieving at least 90% attendance in the previous academic year, maintaining satisfactory grades in all subjects and having no record of expulsions or alternative education placements in prior academic years.
Parents or guardians are responsible for providing timely transportation for approved transfer students. Failure to meet this responsibility may result in revocation of the transfer agreement.

Frisco ISD Approved Similar Program
On Nov. 18, 2024, the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees approved Access Frisco, a program set to launch in the 2025-26 school year. This initiative will allow students from neighboring communities to attend select schools within the district, addressing declining enrollment in certain areas. The program will grant access to Frisco ISD’s educational resources for students in kindergarten through seventh grade, broadening the district’s impact and fostering greater inclusivity. Frisco ISD also allows for in-district transfers pending applications.
