Historic downtown McKinney is officially in the holiday spirit with the installation of a stunning 35-foot frosted fir Christmas tree. Arriving from Michigan, this tree is the centerpiece of downtown’s holiday transformation.
According to the city, the tree’s arrival and display were made possible by contributions from the local community and the support of corporate sponsor H-E-B. Previously, a campaign offered families and organizations the opportunity to be recognized at the tree display with a tax-deductible donation of $35. The first 150 donors contributing at least $35 also received a commemorative ornament as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the community.
“We are thrilled to continue this beloved tradition and bring the McKinney Christmas Tree to our community once again," Director of the McKinney Cultural District Andrew Jones previously said. "The tree represents the joy that the holiday season brings, and we invite everyone to join us in making this year's tree the most spectacular yet."
WHEN IS THE TREE LIGHTING?
Holiday festivities will begin with the annual tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 29, at 6:15 p.m., held in the heart of downtown McKinney at 200 N. Kentucky St. This cherished tradition invites residents and visitors alike to gather for an enchanting evening as the tree is illuminated for the first time.

Following the tree lighting, McKinney’s beloved holiday event, Home for the Holidays… A McKinney Christmas, kicks off its annual celebration from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1. This event transforms the downtown area into a winter wonderland, blending small-town charm with big holiday spirit. Visitors can enjoy a variety of festive activities, delicious seasonal food, and entertainment suitable for all ages.
