Texas generates approximately $193.8 billion in annual economic impact from tourism, supporting 1.3 million jobs statewide — but it's not just the state's largest cities drawing visitors. It's vibrant communities like Plano that play a vital role in driving the state's tourism industry.
Governor Greg Abbott recently recognized the city of Plano as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas during the program’s inaugural year. This recognition highlights the city’s dedication to leveraging tourism as a driver of economic growth, creating local jobs and attracting visitors from across the country and around the world.
“We pride ourselves in being a one-stop shop resource for visitors seeking information on what makes Plano an exciting place to visit," Visit Plano Assistant Director Millerann Moya told Local Profile. "We are honored to receive the Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community designation from Travel Texas, which reaffirms Plano’s dedication to welcoming visitors with outstanding hospitality and vibrant experiences. This recognition highlights our ongoing efforts to enhance tourism, support local businesses and showcase the unique attractions, restaurants and events that make Plano a premier destination in Texas.”
Many, Many Visitors Came To Plano
In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Visit Plano hosted 158 events — ranging from corporate and association meetings to sports tournaments, SMERF (social, military, educational, religious and fraternal) gatherings and government events — resulting in 48,000 booked room nights. Plano welcomed 3.6 million overnight visitors during the year, driving an impressive $1 billion in annual visitor spending.
By leveraging tourism as a powerful economic engine, Plano is enhancing visitor experiences while fueling job creation and supporting local businesses. “Plano is a city that balances business and leisure, offering visitors a destination where work and play come together effortlessly,” said Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell in an official statement.
