At Home CEO and president Lee Bird was the keynote speaker at the Plano Chamber of Commerce Quarterly luncheon on June 30, 2015.
Formerly Garden Ridge stores, At Home has been undergoing a major $20 million transformation for the past year.
Visible changes include changing the logo’s bright orange to blue, gray and white in the new logo. Prices will remain low and stores will continue to be located in big box retail space, however the merchandise is organized and displayed to be more pleasing and accessible. Décor styles will be available for every taste, from mid-century modern to country, and everything in between.
Another significant transformation is the company’s culture. Bird and his management team have made changes to meet the needs of employees, such as raising minimum wages of full-time employees to $10 an hour, offering 401Ks, closing their stores on Easter and Thanksgiving, providing paid time off for volunteering, and more. The company is also focusing on meeting the expectations of the consumers with great pricing, attractive presentation, and excellent customer service. Their mission is to “Enable everyone to affordably make their house a home.”
At Home headquarters are located in east Plano. They currently have 81 stores in 21 states, with a goal of 100 stores in 26 states by the end of 2015.
