Three Costco locations are expected to open in Collin County in 2025 as North Texas populations continue to rise. The new Costco locations are planned for Celina, Prosper and Allen.

Why This Matters

While the announcement matters for local consumers, the arrival of three more Costcos is indicative of the county’s rapid growth. Costco currently boasts 40 locations across Texas, with four of them serving Collin County alone. This latest announcement nearly doubles the number of Costcos, making the number of stores as an indicator of the county's increased population. Rapid growth calls for more infrastructure. As more folks move to the county, the need for additional stores rises.

Texas' population is estimated to have exceeded 30.7 million people this year. In Collin County alone, the population has risen by more than 13% from 2020 to 2023. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Allen, grew by 6.7%. The rapidly expanding town of Prosper reported a staggering 40.6% increase. But most notably, Celina's population skyrocketed by an extraordinary 157.6%.

Local Impact: More Sales And Property Tax Revenue

“Costco will bring additional jobs to the fast-growing community,” Prosper Economic Development Corporation President, Jordan Simms said in an official statement. “And more importantly, they will bring additional sales tax and property tax revenues that will help Prosper fund town infrastructure and the school district to ensure we maintain our high standards.”

Not only will the economic impact affect all three cities, but also create more jobs. Costco stores typically employ 100 to 300 team members, supported by the company's impressive 94% employee retention rate. Costco also offers above-average wages and comprehensive medical and dental benefits to all staff, including part-timers.

When Will The Stores Open

The Celina store is set to kick off the expansion with a grand opening on Jan. 24. As Local Profile previously reported, Celina is the smallest town chosen to build a full-service Costco store ever. Next, Prosper will welcome its new Costco on March 14, after starting construction in April 2024. Rounding out the trio, Allen's eagerly anticipated store is slated to open in the summer of 2025.
