For the past three decades, Adventure Landing, located in Collin County on Coit Road, near the George Bush Turnpike, has been a childhood mainstay. With mini-golf, go-karts, batting cages and video games, Adventure Landing entertains generations in Far North Dallas and Plano. And that amusement icon was almost lost forever.

The current landowner selling the property had only received offers from developers who had no intention of continuing its legacy as an entertainment venue. The city of Dallas recognized the importance of preserving the adjacent soccer fields and maintaining the land in this highly developed area with limited park space.

On Dec. 11, the Dallas City Council unanimously approved the $13.65 million purchase to acquire the site to create a new community park, while preserving the original Adventure Landing facility.

What Will Happen To Adventure Landing

The 30-year-old entertainment venue — which includes go-carts, mini golf, batting cages, an arcade and other attractions — will continue to operate under the same management and the same name.

“Adventure Landing is a part of the fabric of our community,” Council Member Cara Mendelsohn said in an official statement. “It’s a 30-year beloved place for families, school field trips and lasting memories. I’m excited to preserve this community treasure and see more Dallas residents create their own happy memories at Adventure Landing and the Hildebrand soccer fields.”

Countless birthday parties and celebrations are held at Adventure Landing — and thanks to Dallas, will continue to be.

“Like many others, my husband Barry and I have hosted birthday parties for our children there,” Mendelsohn said, wearing an Adventure Landing t-shirt at the council meeting. “We've taken the kids to batting cage practice, and we've shared wonderful memories with friends and family. Adventure Landing is part of the fabric of our community.”

The Same Adventure Landing, But Even Better

Once funding is secured, likely through future bond programs, the city of Dallas plans to develop an additional community park on the site. In the interim, the parks and recreation department will oversee the soccer fields on the property, while the current Adventure Landing operator will continue managing the remaining facilities and amenities until construction begins.

The park will complement nearby recreational spaces, including the Preston Ridge Trail and Twin Lakes Park, while the adjacent Cotton Belt Trail is expected to enhance connectivity when completed.

How The Purchase Benefits Local Plano ISD Students

“This area, which includes neighborhoods served by Plano ISD, all of which are Title One schools in Dallas, is home to more than 6,700 housing units and over 20,000 people within a ten-minute walk to the park,” Mendelsohn said during the meeting. “Currently, people have to walk 1.8 miles just to get to the nearest trail, and that doesn't include access to playgrounds or sports fields. This park will change that, providing critical amenities close to home.”

But it’s not only PISD students who benefit. Adventure Landing is located to neighborhoods in Richardson ISD, too. Locals in Far North Dallas, Plano and Richardson all will benefit.

Why This Matters

This acquisition marks a significant step forward in Dallas's efforts to provide equitable access to parks and green spaces, ensuring that all residents have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation and community engagement. It also provides a park and amusement oasis on the increasingly congested Coit Road.

The Dallas Park and Recreation Board unanimously supported the acquisition, underscoring its importance in an area where parkland is scarce. Board President Arun Agarwal noted the challenge of securing land in densely developed parts of the city, calling this acquisition a rare opportunity. “With the cost of land in north Dallas increasing in value, we are fortunate to secure this property to ensure residents have access to green spaces and new recreational amenities,” Agarwal said.
