Construction Begins On All-Ability Playground In Celina, Texas

The playground is scheduled to be completed by October 2025

Construction on a brand-new all-inclusive playground began this week in Celina, Texas.

According to Celina Parks and Recreation, the city issued a notice to proceed to Dean Construction to begin construction at the Old Celina Park at 12670 FM 428, on June 10, 2024. Construction is scheduled to be completed by October 2025, weather permitting.

Throughout this period, the current playground zone will be inaccessible. The current playground apparatus will be dismantled and moved to a new specified location within the park. Residents will receive notification once the relocation is completed.

Renderings of the park show a farm theme with a barn play area, as well as farm animals and tractors around the playground. A variety of slides, swings, climbing equipment and shaded areas are also planned for the new playground.

During a meeting on Dec. 12, 2023, Celina City Council members endorsed an agreement to receive a $750,000 federal grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. This grant facilitated the construction of the new playground at Old Celina Park.

On May 14, 2024, city council members gave the green light to the $7.23 million guaranteed maximum price for the construction of a new park playground. The remaining expenses will be covered by bond proceeds from the planned 2024 bond sale.

This cost, covering a 10% contingency fee, encompasses the creation of a water feature and a multiuse court. The playground design, as outlined in the meeting presentation, aims to promote inclusive play for children aged 2 to 12 across various areas.
