A ground breaking ceremony for Prosper Fire Station 4, located at 3980 E. Prosper Trail, will take place on Jan. 9, 2025. This new station is being built to better serve the rapidly growing community, which has experienced a population increase of more than 40% in the last three years.
Why This Matters
The newest fire station, Prosper Fire Station 4, will be the town’s fourth fire station. It features five bays to accommodate fire engines, along with sleeping quarters, offices and a kitchen for the firefighters. Construction of the gas line is expected to begin in early 2025, with the remainder of the station's construction starting as soon as possible now that the designs are complete. The station is still on track to open in early 2026.
As Local Profile previously reported, the town of Prosper celebrated the opening of Prosper Central Fire Station in August 2023. Spanning 30,800 square feet, the station will house Central Fire Station, the Fire Administration, the Fire Marshal’s Office, a fitness facility and a public 9/11 museum. The facility also featured an executive conference room that serves as the town’s emergency operations center. However, as the town continues to grow, an additional station is needed.
The New Fire Station Reflects Prosper’s Growth
Texas' population is estimated to have exceeded 30.7 million people this year. In Collin County alone, the population has risen by more than 13% from 2020 to 2023. The rapidly expanding town of Prosper reported a staggering 40.6% increase. Rapid growth calls for more infrastructure.
This could be why during a council meeting in October 2024, Prosper Town Council members approved raising the guaranteed maximum price for Fire Station No. 4 from $13.67 million to a not-to-exceed amount of $13.81 million. The $139,852 increase will cover the cost of extending a natural gas line along Prosper Trail, from Escalante Trail to Coit Road, where the station will be situated.
