LOOKING BACK
The 2023 Women in Business Summit

Over 600 women celebrated accomplishments and lessons at the best summit ever

The 22nd annual Women in Business Summit, organized by Local Profile and presented by Baylor Scott & White Health, brought over 600 North Texas women in all forms of business together on September 8, 2023.

Kicking the day off with mimosas and networking, guests met inspirational women and had their portraits drawn by a local artist, Volta Voloshin-Smith with Color Snack.

“I loved that there was a small business focus this year,” HireEffect founder and CEO Jennifer Scott said. “The combination of inspiration and encouragement was spot on — a great reminder that we are not alone.”

This year, speakers included Psyche Terry, the CEO of UI Global Brands, and Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk, the president and co-founder of The Memnosyne Institute. Both women spoke about their struggles and accomplishments in the world of business and how they created their breakthrough moments.

While lunch was served, the first panel of the day began: “Lessons Learned from Successful Women in Business.” Led by Amber Russell, the founder of law firm LOAR, the panel highlighted lessons learned from successful women in business, including Caren Lock, the vice president and associate general counsel of government relations at TIAA; Kristi Sherrill, the EVP and chief philanthropy and community affairs officer at Baylor Scott & White Health; Victoria Ungashick, the private wealth market manager of Bank of Texas; and Cheryl Orange, the managing director and CIO of FedEx Custom Critical.

“I was here last year, and I’ve really been looking forward to this year’s summit,” Amber Russell told Local Profile before beginning the panel.

The women each had the opportunity to discuss the trials and tribulations of being a woman in a range of industries. Each holds a drastically different role, and their advice, stories and inspiring mindsets opened up a discussion about how to truly be a successful woman in business.

After coffee and continued networking, the second panel began: “Women as Agents of Change in Their Communities and Companies.” It was led by Local Profile’s Rebecca Silvestri, and panelists included Rhonda Gilyard, the general manager of quality for product quality and technical evaluation at Toyota North America; Dr. Fatima Robertson, an oral plastic surgeon at the Center of Endodontics, Periodontics and Implantology; Dr. Linda Abraham Silver, the CEO of The Perot Museum of Nature and Science; and Alana Matthews, the founder of Alautus Clothing and COO at G8RTech.

The women shared advice on how to be the change within companies and not give up, even when faced with professional adversity and personal roadblocks.

The event ended at Bulla Gastrobar with a paella-and-wine-filled happy hour and new connections.

This year’s Women in Business Summit would not have been possible without the event’s sponsors, Bank of Texas, LOAR, O’Neil Wysocki Family Law, Pepsico, Toyota, Independent Financial, JCPenney, Scheef & Stone and H-E-B. Local Profile thanks them.
