Lessons Learned From Successful Women In Business

Local Profile's Inaugural Women's Leadership Symposium

On June 13, 2024, 200 North Texas women met for Local Profile’s inaugural Women in Business Leadership Symposium, presented by Bank of America and hosted by the Hilton Granite Park Hotel in Plano.

Welcomed by Fields West, guests gathered for networking with cocktails and light bites. A panel discussion on lessons learned from successful women in business allowed current and future women in business to learn from some of the best in North Texas.

The panel discussion, facilitated by Local Profile's Rebecca Silvestri, featured speakers including Bank of America Dallas President Jennifer Chandler, Former PepsiCo CTO/VP Fern Johnson and Mpowered Families Founder and CEO Ann C. Sheu

During the discussion, Chander highlighted the importance of pursuing your goals, even when you may not have a direct path planned out. “It’s okay to be afraid, it’s okay to be scared,” Chandler said. “But you have to be brave.”

Johnson added that focusing on the big picture shifts one’s mindset and desired outcome. And making mistakes along the way is a part of the big picture. “Don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good,” Johnson said. “Sometimes, good is good enough.”

Mistakes are also a big part of Sheu’s journey and she pushes not only herself, but her family to celebrate their success. Each night, Sheu and her family share “six special shares,” one being a mistake they made that day. “Mistakes are the stepping stones of success,” Sheu said. “They are mandatory.”

The symposium closed with a giveaway sponsored by IKEA Frisco. Event sponsors also included Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, Baylor Scott & White - The Heart Hospital Plano, Dallas IVF, PGA of America and Ebby Halliday, among others.

Local Profile’s 23rd annual Women in Business Summit, presented by Baylor Scott & White Health, is set for Sept. 13, 2024, at Renaissance Dallas at Plano Legacy West Hotel. This year, over 600 powerhouse women from various sectors including global enterprise, non-profit, small business and government will gather to celebrate, unite and empower each other to turn big ideas into reality.
