If there’s one thing North Texans know, it’s that you don’t mess with Texas chili — and you definitely don’t forget the jalapeños. For the second time in his career, Dallas-born golf pro and Veritex Bank-sponsored Scottie Scheffler has hosted the Masters Champions Dinner, and once again, he’s put his Lone Star roots front and center — no frills, all flavor.
Texas on a Plate
Scheffler’s menu for the 2025 dinner at Augusta National wasn’t out to shock anyone — unless you count the heat from his Texas-style chili. Two years ago, Scheffler's tortilla soup left some champions reaching for water and according to USA Today, the chili maintained a notable kick, prompting 1979 champion Fuzzy Zoeller to describe it as a "five-alarm fire."
With “Scottie-Style” cheeseburger sliders, firecracker shrimp and the newly added meatball and ravioli bites (inspired by a holiday cooking accident), the appetizers alone were a nostalgic nod to backyard barbecues and family dinners.
And yes, those raviolis are the same dish Scheffler was prepping when a wine glass mishap left him sidelined earlier this year and had to miss the start of the season. Let’s just say his return to the Masters didn’t require stitches — just a spoon.

Main Course, Texas-Sized
For the main event, guests had the choice between a wood-fired cowboy ribeye or blackened redfish. Sides included macaroni and cheese, jalapeño creamed corn, soy-glazed Brussels sprouts and chipotle-lime sweet potatoes — proof that Scheffler knows how to bring the spice without overcomplicating the meal.
The dinner closed with a warm chocolate chip skillet cookie and vanilla bean ice cream. A classic. No need to reinvent dessert when it’s already perfect.
Masters Tradition Meets Texas Simplicity
The Champions Dinner tradition dates back to 1952, when Ben Hogan first invited fellow winners to gather for a private dinner ahead of tournament week. The reigning champion chooses the menu — a detail that has led to some unforgettable culinary moments, from sushi spreads to Southern feasts.
While some hosts take their menus international, Scheffler has remained consistent in embracing the meals that shaped him — simple, satisfying and best enjoyed with people you know well.
The Tournament Begins
With the Champions Dinner concluded, the 2025 Masters Tournament officially begins today, April 10, at Augusta National Golf Club. Scheffler, aiming to defend his title, teed off at 10:15 a.m. ET alongside Justin Thomas and amateur Jose Luis Ballester. Golf enthusiasts can follow the action through various broadcast and streaming options, including ESPN+ for the early rounds and CBS for the weekend coverage.
