It’s that time of year again when historic downtown McKinney transforms into a festive wonderland for the annual Home for the Holidays Christmas celebration, presented by Commercial Bank of Texas.
The event kicks off on Thanksgiving weekend, running from Friday, Nov. 29, through Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024. Visitors can expect a variety of family-friendly activities, live entertainment and holiday-themed fun across the charming 14-block area of McKinney's 167-year-old historic district. The festivities officially kick off with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony begins at 6:15 p.m., and on Friday, Nov. 29, in the heart of downtown McKinney. The towering tree will remain lit throughout the season.
Home for the Holidays has an array of activities for the whole family. Santa Claus will be making appearances for photo opportunities and kids can enjoy a petting zoo, arts and crafts stations, and classic amusement rides like a Ferris wheel and carousel. Other highlights include life-sized holiday postcards where attendees can snap festive photos and Frosty’s magical train on which visitors can hop a ride, adding an extra touch of magic to the celebration.
Parking will be accessible for visitors, with 12 public parking lots surrounding downtown McKinney. Additionally, a complimentary shuttle service will provide round-trip transportation between downtown and First McKinney Baptist Church, located at 1615 W. Louisiana St., with shuttles departing every 15 minutes throughout the event, ensuring that guests can travel with ease.
Event hours are as follows: Friday, Nov. 29: 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 30: 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 1: Noon to 5 p.m.
Visitors can take Exit 40-A from U.S. Highway 75 and travel east on Louisiana Street for approximately 1.2 miles to downtown.
