In a little less than two weeks from now, residents and visitors will find Plano is getting funnier. The fifth annual Plano Comedy Festival will feature over 100 local and national comedians and sketch and improv groups performing at Plano House of Comedy during the eight-day event.
Since beginning in 2018, the festival has grown from a weekend-long event to a full week of laughter. Not only comedy fans are paying attention to the event — one of the goals of the festival is to enrich and grow the comedic scene in Plano and North Texas, and as previously reported by Local Profile, last year their efforts picked the interest of the city of Plano, that provided funding to boost the festival’s expansion.
"They say that we make Plano look cool and Plano is the happiest city in America,” festival co-founder and board member Britainy Goss told the Dallas Observer. “Just being there making people laugh is great, and Plano is a big arts city.”
According to the festival’s website, since the inaugural festival, the city saw an increase in high-caliber comedy shows, open mics, local comedy producers and nationally touring headliners choosing Plano for show stops.
This year all events will take place at the Plano House of Comedy in The Shops at Legacy at 7301 Lone Star Drive. Visitors can enjoy a free family-friendly show, a best-of-fest comedy brunch, workshops, after-parties and of course, the annual roast battle championship.
Some of the biggest names in the lineup this year include Chicago-based stand-up comedian and T.V. and film writer Beth Stelling, actor and nationally touring comedian Rachel Feinstein, Dallas’ own Paul Varghese, from Georgia, the hilarious Mia Jackson and Los Angeles-based comedian and podcaster Ali Macofsky among many others.
