The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International's State Convention, June 23–25 in Frisco

More than 1,000 key women educators, both active and retired, will participate in the The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International’s 87th Texas state convention, June 23–25, 2016, at the Frisco Conference Center.

More than 1,000 key women educators, both active and retired, will participate in the The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International’s 87th Texas state convention, June 23–25, 2016, at the Frisco Conference Center. Among 70 breakout sessions being offered are some events of interest listed below. Topics will include current educational trends, legislation, global and societal issues, health issues, and educational travel. Jeannette Zuniga, International Second Vice-President from Costa Rica, will serve as the International Representative to the convention.

Wednesday: Prior to the event, Gloria Campos will be initiated as a state honorary member for her contributions to education in the DFW area.

Thursday: Dr. Jeremy Lyon, Frisco ISD Superintendent of Schools, will bring greetings at the opening session; a proclamation from Frisco Mayor Maher Maso will be read; and “Smooth Brew,” a local barbershop quartet associated with “Men of Note,” will bring the entertainment.

Friday: Tim Lee, Executive Director of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, will present legislative sessions; LaDonna Gatlin, sister of the well-known Gatlin Brothers, will be the guest speaker at the luncheon; and there will be numerous breakout sessions. Friday night, over 550 have signed up to go to RoughRiders game at Dr Pepper Ballpark where State President Marilyn Gregory will throw out the first pitch, and State Music Chair Deb Acevedo-Tamminga will sing the national anthem.

Saturday: There will be a business session, other breakout sessions and the Founders’ and Presidents’ Banquet to close the convention.

About The Delta Kappa Gamma Society 
Founded by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton in 1929 at the University of Texas in Austin, this honor society has 75,000 members in 17 member countries. There are currently five chapters in Collin County (Plano has three chapters; McKinney has one chapter; and Wylie has one chapter), and a new Frisco chapter will be chartered at the convention on Friday morning, June 24.
