The City of Plano is one of the best places to live and work in the world—and not just according to us. The United States Conference of Mayors and Waste Management recognized the City of Plano for outstanding leadership in support of the Great Update Rebate Program. Plano has been awarded the 2016 Outstanding Achievement City Livability Award for populations of 100,000 and above.
The Great Update Rebate helps Plano homeowners with the financial burden of caring for older homes. More than $720,000 has been rebated to program participants in the form of a rebate, and another $315,000 has been set aside for projects underway. Since its inception more than two years ago, 226 Plano residents have applied for the rebates. 161 projects have been completed. Another 65 are underway. The average rebate check is $4,363. Homeowners have invested more than $6 million for improvements to their homes.
Plano was one of 20 award-winning U.S. cities chosen by an independent panel of judges, selected by The U.S. Conference of Mayors. The awards were announced Saturday at the USCM Annual Meeting in Indianapolis. Plano life is something to celebrate and this is a huge honor for our wonderful town.
