The Fields Ranch East course at Omni PGA Frisco Resort ranked 63rd on Golfweek’s 2024 list of the Top 100 Best Courses You Can Play. This honor highlights the course's distinctive design and exceptional features in the competitive landscape of American golf.
Each year, Golfweek’s panel of hundreds of raters evaluates courses based on 10 criteria, averaging these ratings to create their rankings. The highest-rated courses generally score above nine, while many excellent layouts fall between high-six to eight.
Fields Ranch East is new to the list and scored 6.75. It is the only North Texas course on the list and one of only two in Texas. Black Jack’s Crossing at the Lajitas Golf Resort is listed at 50, up three positions from last year's list.
Designed by renowned architect Gil Hanse, Fields Ranch East leverages the natural terrain to offer a strategic challenge for golfers of all levels. Located near the PGA of America headquarters in Frisco, this walking-only course requires a caddy reservation, emphasizing a traditional golfing experience. Features like rolling topography, dry washes and the meandering Panther Creek enhance both aesthetics and strategy.
Leading up to the PGA Professional Championship which took place at PGA Frisco from April 28 to May 1, 2024, Local Profile spoke with John Lindert, president of the PGA of America, at the PGA Coaching Center about the North Texas relocation.
"It's actually beyond belief," Lindert told Local Profile. "I was part of the board when we made the decision to move from West Palm Beach to Frisco. The buy-in from the Omni properties and the city of Frisco working collaboratively together is just beyond what I could have ever imagined. And golf courses have turned out fantastic."
The Omni PGA Frisco Resort offers more than just Fields Ranch East. It includes another championship course, Fields Ranch West, designed by Beau Welling, a lighted 10-hole par-3 short course called The Swing and The Dance Floor, a 2-acre putting course and entertainment area.
